MM, corporate taxes are passed on to the consumer. The way to lower taxes is smaller gov't. Estate taxes are irritating you manage to accumulate a fortune paying taxes all your life and the gov't wants more. The gov't should encourage capital accumulation not punish it. I do think New Yorkers should pay higher taxes -g- mike

this is a democracy and not a Socialist one

this absolutely IS a socialist democracy. the biggest items in the budget are social welfare programs. and in true socialist fashion they aren't even fully funded, but are run at a deficit.

>> Corporations do not pay close to their share

What does this mean? All corporations, or just ones that are bigger than yours?

>>If you own a 10 million dollar small biz and make 300-500K why should you have to liquidate your company to pay excesive taxes

You could always pay yourself less. That is one way to avoid taxation.

I'm not defending the current system. It is broken, and it rewards the wrong type of behavior. But, as far as taxes are concerned, the burden on the high end of the income scale in the US is among the lightest. To be honest, your complaint seems to be based more on your personal distaste of paying what you consider to be high taxes rather than a concern for the overall welfare of the society. This is the human-all-too-human lament of the nouveau riche.

Personal motives shouldn't inform the debate about taxes, but unfortunately they do.
