My conclusion: Obviously the poll numbers are incorrect. I'd say that New Delhi Television is full of s#:t. This is a fantasy land poll.

but how do you really feel, Carl? :o)

Carl:

The poll was not conducted by NDTV. Let me give you another link. expressindia.com

The poll was conducted by MORI in UK. mori.com

>>MORI (Market & Opinion Research International) is the largest independently-owned market research company in the United Kingdom.

Since our foundation in 1969 MORI has been one of Britain's fastest growing research agencies. Following a management buy-out in March 2000, MORI's UK staff and directors hold over half the company's equity - the remainder being held by 3i, Europe's leading venture capital company.>>

Carl:

One important question that was not included in the poll was whether Jammu and Kashmir should be independent. And that invalidates the poll to some extent.

But I am not too surprised that the Jammu/Kashmiris are not particularly fond of Pakistan. Kashmiri leaders were heavily courted by Pakistan before and after 1947. Kashmiris did not want to be with Pakistan.
Sheikh Abdullah had consciously changed his party's name from Muslim Conference to National Conference during the independence movement to show his discomfort with Muslim League that wanted Pakistan.

Sheikh Abdullah's elected govt. finally did accede to India much later, I think in the 1960s.

India is holding elections in Kashmir in September/October and has invited all Kashmiri parties to the election. The parties are boycotting the elections under pressure from Pakistan. A key moderate leader, Lone, was shot dead a few days ago.

>If the poll results are so heavily in favor of India, why the hell doesn't India simply have free and fair elections on the subject? It would improve India's position with the United Nations &c.
