It's probably safe to assume that the free AVG program does not protect against the number of possible viruses that Norton does. But the disclaimer from AVG that there are other viruses in their av data base that they don't list, does leave some wiggle room.

Also there is a notice in the program that users of the free version can purchase a years worth of tech support....I didn't check to see what they charge or what the support entails.
