I would agree that Oracle may have had their reputation damaged, but I find it interesting how uncritically some people on this board accept the "findings" of the audit that claimed that the state of California bought more Oracle software than it needed. Oracle hired some other auditing firm to look at the state audit, and that story never got past the PR Newswire.

Also, I'd like to add one point on the topic of media manipulation. This story was started and pushed by the San Jose Mercury News, which has a long-standing policy of hating Larry Ellison and Oracle. They never publish any news about Oracle unless it's bad, and if they can't find any news they run hatchet jobs.

So I think that there is a very good chance that California is going to get some of their money back AND end up paying Oracle a lot more money for a lot less software in the end.
