wanna, re:80% of the server market is controlled by 4 main OEMs. How many of these have committed to designing robust Hammer based servers with the RAS and features that are required to sell in that market?

I dunno, do you? If they have, why should they pre-announce something that will just result in order cancellations for their current product?

Wanna, Re: <Itanium has 3 out of the 4 of the major OEMs supporting it, as well as a host of tier-2 support.>

Who do you consider to be the top 4?

Do you think it's now 3 out of 4 down from 4 out of 4 last month?

Re: <Itanium has 3 out of the 4 of the major OEMs supporting it, as well as a host of tier-2 support. Hammer has not announced support from a single tier-1 or tier-2 OEM, and even if one were to commit today on designing a robust system around Hammer, they aren't likely to have anything out before late 2003. >

LOL. I gave you over or under on volume sales of Itanic II for 200K/year. You wouldn't answer. And now you're trying to posture Itanic II as a Hammer contender?

LOL. Get some Balls!

Itanic II is in the *Under Water Exploration Market*. Hammers are coming onto the desktop.

Get real.

Plenty of motherboards and chipsets...you know what that means...

Re: How many 4-way and above servers will AMD be selling with their whitebox reference design? 80% of the server market is controlled by 4 main OEMs.

If AMD picks up HPQ and SUN, AMD will have access to more than half the tier 1 OEM market for multiprocessor (4-way and above) servers.

If AMD is really able to publicly demonstrate a 4-way Hammer server at Computex... The sky's the limit - this would be a pull in of nearly a year compared to what Intel was expecting as recently as 6 months ago, and would be confirmation that the "glueless logic" multiprocessor design of Sledgehammer works. A "glueless logic" architecture substantially increases performance while dramatically cutting costs (if it can be made to work!).

This would give AMD a fundamental design advantage over Intel in a second major semi segment (the first being mirror-bit in the flash market).
