Until you find the problem, use a power bar and turn
the power off at the bar. I always do anyhow just
in case there is a power surge in the area.

Re: my computer refuses to stay turned off.

Go in to the bios of your computer, and disable the wake-on-lan feature - there's a good chance that's your problem.

Here's an article discussing the reverse issue (the computer refueses to turn on by itself!)

<My problem is that my computer refuses to stay turned off. When I shut it down, it will come back on by itself anywhere between 10 minutes to several hours later.>

Check the BIOS settings and make sure that "Wake Up On Lan" feature is disabled.
