Actually the "energy crisis" that was the catalyst for slowing people down was bs anyway started by the lying, thieving texas oil criminals. The 55mph was implemented by Ford or Nixon in 1974 Damn. I've read so many claims from conservatives about the energy crisis belonging to Carter along with the 55 mph, I started to believe it. You're right the energy crisis started in the Nixon Administration and he signed the national speed limit in the Fall of 1973. I think he even threw it into the accomplishments section of his State of the Union in 1974. The mess was just passed on to Carter to take the blame. Bless those little conservative hearts. jttmab
