New York ( MktNews ) - The New York office of Japan's Ministry of Finance Friday declined comment on market talk that the Japanese monetary authorities had intervened in dollar-yen during the New York hours.

"All I can say is the MOF intervened in the afternoon of ( May 31 ) in Tokyo time," a MOF spokesman told Market News International. He declined any further comment.

Some FX traders speculated that the MOF had been intervening again as dollar-yen bounced up late in the New York morning but traders could not confirm any MOF action. There were several rounds of dollar-yen intervention reported in late Tokyo/early London trading Friday.
