Germany appears to be the first to offer precious metal coins:

Hey changing topics slightly, if I recall correctly didn't talk long ago about gold vaporizing at high temps.(above temp of melting point) under direct flame? Then wouldn't there have been gold lost during WW-II in the Atomic blasts in Japan?
