enigma,

Re: This patriotism stuff is all about you, and the rest of this nation, being the country with the most freedom on the planet.

While I concur with you that the freedom of speech is an important right, I think that patriotism should be more than lip service to abstract conceptualizations. It should be about caring for the citizens of the nation. In that regard, I think the message presented by Kevin Phillips in his new book "Wealth and Democracy"

is an important one. Patriotism that blindly allows kleptocracy to reign is a form of tyranny, just as sure as more blatant totalitarian regimes.

Re: and are free to cast a vote for a candidate that may, or may not, agree with the fundamentals on which this nation was founded.

Reminding me of the book that Jim Hightower wrote a few years back, titled: "If the Gods Had Meant Us to Vote, They'd Have Given Us Candidates".

Re: There are a miniscule percentage of the population that might be considered the "fat cats" you are making so much noise about.

It's not their numbers that offend my sensibilities, it is their inordinate control of the agenda of government to reward themselves at the expense of the great majority of citizens in this country. See the Phillips book for the details.

Studying your and Ish's remarks regarding 'patriotism' ...

...continues to mystify me as to how and why you both are in this place in your attitudes and lives, fundamentally.

Is it that you 'have yours' in terms of lifelong health insurance?

And in terms of financial independence so that you don't have to worry any longer about what the hell happens to everybody else?

If this is so, you prefer that 'everybody else' leaves this country?

And if 'they/we' don't, you have every right to shoot us dead in our tracks?

Or imprison us 'dissenters' to get us out of your consciousness?

?????????????????????????????
