Mary had asked a high ranking exec at IBM to give young Bill a shout in consideration for a position?

I've never seen that "interview" for IBM theory before. Mary did mention his son's name to John Opel, IBM's president. I mean, by the time IBM knocked in Microsoft's door Bill was already a millionaire. Why would he even consider working as an employee for the evil empire (yes, IBM used to be the evil empire, before Intel-Microsoft made them irrelevant and Microsoft earned the moniker).
