PT, did you notice the news that Transmeta is working on a 128-bit processor? I think VLIW might make sense if the code is morphed using their technique rather than trying to optimize it before it is running.

Also, a low power CPU with very large addressing capability may be just what the doctor ordered for huge database servers, where the key performance metric is how much of the database can reside in RAM vs. disk, rather than how many MOPS or MFLOPS the CPU's have.

It's OK that AMD can't afford to buy them yet, since Intel would probably not be allowed to buy them, and I see AMD strengthening before Transmeta can put it all together (if they ever can).
