Kashmir's accession to India was based on a minority king signing a piece of paper saying that Kashmir belonged to India. The Kashmiri people have never been consulted. Indians never tire of claiming that their country is a democracy (an empty claim when every once in a while, hundreds of people are butchered and nobody is ever punished for those crimes), but this little fact of a maharajah deciding the fate of his subjects is OK with them.

You are entitled to your opinion Cynic--and you've done your best to convey the facts to me as you see them. It's just not how I see the facts. Thank you anyway for trying.

Do you not agree both India and Pakistan would be better off letting Kashmir be independent if it would settle the 55 year old quarrel?
