I hear Krakow is a great holiday place for artsy things. It looks like the High Tatras are about 60 miles south. I think that would be a nice combo for a holiday. A city break and some nice fresh mountain air.

I agree. I was nearly sent to Poland on a business trip and gave the matter some thought.

What you would need to brush up on is Hungarian and Latin.

When my family came to this country, their homeland was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. What they spoke was Slovak. I don't think there are many Hungarians in the northern part of Slovakia. I recall that, when I was a child, my family associated with folks from Poland and they seemed to communicate well. My father is still in touch with relatives of his generation and they write in Slovak. He's starting to have trouble writing, though, so the letters will be ending soon.

I always found it interesting that tribes that squabbled in the old country banned together in the new. I guess the Slovaks and the Hungarians and the Poles found that they had a lot in common with each other when the alternative was Irish or Italians.
