Point well made - I have not read much about what the possible motives behind this fight for strong(er) yen are. I assume simply to keep the exporting leverage in place. Correct?

Given the size of Japan's involvement in US I guess they could all simply go home (the last one to turn off the lights) and live off their pile of money stashed away. And now and then fly to PRC to tell the new owners of their factories, what went wrong with their production lately. Nothing better than a little extra income (cum visit in the forbidden city) for a good-looking, active retiro-san.
