Arafat is a terrorist plain and simple. He does not listen to his people. He has refused to hold elections. He walked away from peace many times.

There will never be peace while he is in charge. IMO

No Hal, but instead things like demanding that Arafat should go and thereby thumbing their noses at the choice of the Palestenian people. After all, it is these same Palestenian folks who achieved what Israel couldn't achieve: that is to tell Arafat what to do or else to step aside.

They never chose him; the Arab League annointed him and the Israeli left brought him in under Oslo. As the Palestinians say, we were occupied by the Turks, then the British, then the Israelis, then the Tunisians. Arafat ran one sham election in 1996, having made sure that he had only token opposition. His term ran out in 1999 but he never bothered to run again.

If the Palestinians had any political sense, they would have revolted against Arafat long ago. But it seems that even he has brought one disaster too many for them to support him.

And Arafat got the message from his people. And it seems he is going to carry out the wishes of his people.

Touching display of faith. Reforming the PA with Arafat in place is like reforming the Ba'ath Party with Saddam Hussein in place. More sham.

Why shouldn't they demand he go. The man is a direct supporter of terrorism, with funnels of money traced to his offices. I see no difference in demanding Arafat go then in U.S. demands that Saddam go. Both are corrupt, vain, demagogues that hurt instead of harm their peoples, as well as contribute to the killing of innocents.
