Did anyone see Sir John Templeton and Bill Fleckenstein on CNBS. Templeton said that the average stock lost 89% of its value during the crash of 29. That would bring the dow down to 1500 or so. He did not predict that--he just made the point that there is plenty of downside left. As far as nasdaq goes Fleckenstein is looking a lot lower. Fleckenstein sounded alot like battapaglia with his 6000 prediction in 2000. Templeton's analysis for alot more worrisome.
The merrill head strategist was on too. He predicts 5% gain for s&p over next 12-18 months. He recommended dividend paying utilities, consumer durables and Defense stocks which he called the new growth area of the market for obvious reasons. Does anyone have stocks they follow in these areas? I may attempt to salvage something of my net worth over the next few weeks. That would be bullish for tech investors if i lighten up in this space. After three years defending the faith, my hands are getting weak here as well. The war situation we are in and likely to be in for the next decade and the beginning of my declining confidence in the competence of the Bush administration are forcing me to rethink. By the way i voted for Gore, but fervently hope the bush team straightens things out. I thought the comment on global warming which i dont totally disagree with was phrased in a way that i found ludicrous.
And in foreign policy lets kill terrorists, force peace in the mideast and south asia and strike deals with the devils to defeat this generations Hitler--terrorism. No need for war on iraq or iran if we keep incenting them to be more moderate in theory and or in actions they may. Looks to me after watching 60 minutes that bastard Sadam is making overtures. And the iranian people one day will take care of the clerics. Clerics dont have absolute power in iran. mike
