the fundamental similarity that needs to be addressed is/was the overvaluation that developed heading into a contracting economy...

quite the double whammy, imo.

yes it is true there are systemic differences ...

otoh we pointed with pride to our "transparency"....which of course was much easier to do with balance sheets audited by the likes of the former AA's of the world...<gg>

i'll be a bit more optimistic when I see real reform from the SEC...that which congress will not override.

particularly in the area of the treatment of options on the balance sheet.

i believe there is still a huge incentive to overinflate stock prices utilizing the self serving "transparency" of the balance sheet until then.
