The 8088 is a 16-bit cpu. Because of the 8-bit databus coding for it required 64K segment-based addressing, that's all. 8-bit cpus could NEVER address more than 64K of total memory but the 8088 does. Also the registers in 808 could handle 16-bit operands where 8-bit cpus cannot..... You need more?
