You cannot make nature operate according to your principles but you can modify the operation of your principles the better to fit nature.

The social sciences are perforce imperfect, but the actually are no more imperfect than the hard sciences. Eventually although they can offer no cures, they have no worse success at prediction than quantum physics has with its particles or energy. And they use the same tools. Statistics.

The curve may be hard to see, Mr. Fourier, and I am sure it has many variables, but apply yourself to the series that unfolds, and it will all work out.
