for instance, even though i can now see a lot of the folders on the winxp machine from my other machine, i can't access them all (the programs folder being one example).

I have 2 xp home machines networked and have no limitations on networking that I am aware of. The Program Files directory appears normally over the network. I just accessed a text file for editing in a sub folder of the Program Files directory. (There are only folders in my Program Files Folder.)

I do remember that when sharing the root directory of a hard drive, XP objects and doesn't want you to share it. But it still will if you insist. (:-)
