She would not be asking for advice if she had that experience. There have been two ways I recovered from a sell off. One was to write covered calls. However, options require a different skill level. I should of sold before substantial losses materialized. The second way was to play the bounce. But this was under a unique circumstance for my mother. My mother should of sold before her losses grew.

The best advice I can give someone in this situation is to sell before the losses mount, sell when they are growing, and sell when there already has been substantial losses. In other words SELL.
