The Cuban revolution was over 40 years ago! What kind of comparison is that? I'm sure I could take similar figures from before the Russian revolution in 1917, and make it look as though the Soviet Union was a huge success, at least until 1990 or so when it fell apart.

Communism is a failed system. It doesn't work. It is based on false assumptions about the way things work and the reasons people do the things they do. That's why almost all communist countries have collapsed or changed to more-or-less free market systems.

Cuba will eventually abandon communism. And the sooner, the better.

and the rat population -g-?

Some part of me agrees with you. As a student I lived almost fee in Rome. The communists used to give out free food along with their propaganda. I read about those figures in Cuba. I found their books boring though and didn't buy any of them. I rejected the "science" out of hand. I must of been smart back then.

If you have a large part of the population starving or dying early for various reasons...you can expect trouble. Cuba "happened". A demonstration that capitalism can fail too. France as well.
