I think that Nixon, Carter, Reagan, his father, and Clinton were brighter. However, only Reagan was superior in judgment.

If you look at that list (which I agree with, and I think most people think that at least Nixon, Carter, Clinton and Bush the elder were smarter than Bush the younger), it is striking how three of those (Nixon, Carter, and Clinton) had problem plagued Presidencies either due to ethical lapses or inability to connect with people or both. I think a smart and glib leader can be dangerous, because (a) they think they know everything and are always right, even when they aren't; and (b) they have the ability to persuade others to follow, even when they shouldn't.

I'll take good judgment over raw intelligence in a President anyday.
