I agree it's interesting.

There's some very careful wording in that paragraph...individual bishops do not enjoy the prerogative of infallibility, but they can proclaim doctrine infallibly. I have a feeling there were a group of Jesuits that argued over that [Jesuits are the 'think tank' for the RC Church].

and while teaching authentically on a matter of faith or morals, they concur in a single viewpoint as the one which must be held conclusively.

The word authentically is pretty clever. You've got an overall passage that says that somehow all the bishops concur in a single viewpoint [that's a miracle right there], but they built in this disclaimer of teaching 'authentically'. Just in case you have a bishop that goes off the deep end and says something heretical, the Church can say...He wasn't teaching 'authentically', that time.

They've got this very fine line drawn, listen to your Bishop; he can proclaim doctrine infallibly, but the Church just might have to step in to clarify.
