Yeah, both Service Corp and Loewen Group (SRV's main competitor) spent multi-billions in a worldwide acquisition spree for independent funeral homes, cemetaries, crematoria, etc.

They used to say it was a 'growth business', what with the aging of the baby boomers.

Companies finally collapsed under a mountain of debts.

In re. to 'Bush fraudulent 'crony capitalistic' ways', I'm interested in the tale of how he intervened to help major campaign contributor SRV out with the Texas Funeral Commission (getting the regulator fired SRV didn't like... and putting in their favorite hand puppets), and how that situation may be analagous to his actions in the Enron scandal... putting Ken Lay's hand puppets in at the FERC.
