They call themselves "technical analysts"

I do not recall them talking about underlying
macroeconomical models, resource limits, population growth,
and such. Certainly, by looking long at a turbulent
stream in a creek, you might be able to catch some
pattern, and even predict sometime a coming wave from a
thrown stone, but I am not sure if you can call it as
explanation.
