".. along the way.." on this path less traveled not because
it lacks for gold & silver bugs, but they have traveled here
and found the road blocked at Hill 290 for too many tears
these too many years of too few cheers.

First notes from the two day Vancouver Gold Conference:

The crowds and interest there was brisk. During the day there were mostly older male investors roaming about. However, during the lunch hours the place was filled up with younger professionals (mostly under 35) from the nearby offices. Is that a sign of new speculative money? Maybe. The companies said interest was way up from prior conferences.

Much was spent on the macro issues that most of us are familiar with. I believe that's because nobody really knows the junior market well so they talk about what they do know. Don't quite know how one makes money out of that. They need you there Claude. I feel some well known observers are not very discriminating in their picks and that's created a bifurcated market. You have people like Bill Murphy touting stocks like Golden Star. Seabridge has been over touted. Serious junior investors need to be careful because of that. Net net though I now feel that despite some "stupid" trading in some stocks, we should be buying any dips in the reasonably priced names. Many are still too cheap for 325 POG.

Nevertheless I was able to glean some good comments from a few speakers and from some of the companies.

On one panel Graham Currie (Canaccord) mentioned the collapse of geological talent. He called it a "supply shortage" of prospects and the people to do the work of prospect generation. He felt that there was opportunity down the food chain to still buy the "survivors" that will fill the void. All three analysts on that panel felt that the seniors and producing mid tiers were vastly overpriced relative to this inefficiently priced grassroots tier. Some companies that fit this genre that they mentioned were Rimfire and Fronteer.

Company notes:

MFL: had a chat with Trench Page. There are regular discussions of course with producers. Several likely suspects in the past haven't even had confidentiality agreements, but that should now change with MFL more in the driver's seat. In the meantime a very serious exploration campaign is underway to expand the resources and reserves. Of particular note will be drilling beneath the main pit in an attempt to extend the main vein structure. I've been contemplating selling at seven bucks. Changed my mind.

NPG: Another survivor, has a very nice land package in Nevada with two prospects JVed to NEM and PDG. The PDG target at South Carlin is an aggressive deep drill of five holes. The targets have been carefully chosen so this is not just a Hail Mary. It's a speculation, but this IMO is a fairly low risk chance at a "company maker" on the Carlin Trend. Don't chase but the price of NPG doesn't especially reflect this IMO. See Gold Newsletter article:

GNG: Talked with Paul Sorbara and he illustrated on his laptop what the Corona drilling situation looked like. The first holes (misses) that were announced last week were where high Au soil grabs were made. The feeling now is that this is washout from higher on the knobby. That's were the followup holes have hit sulfide mineralization. At 50 cents GNG looks like a decent bet as a result.

SUL: There will be a major drilling campaign under way this summer. Lock and load cause it's 40 holes and the stock is dirt cheap at 30 cents.

MAI: I put in some bids during the stinky bid days but never got filled. And by mentioning this I may not get filled again, but I think they have some excellent prospects and partnerships in Argentina. When ABX starts up again at Veladero/Pascua the Argentina gold story will reemerge.

IMR: Should benefit from the Argentina story, but the current excitement will be at Rio Tabaconas. This has the smell of an outstanding gold target.

Question anout Kimber Resources. Very attractive looking IPO with warrants through Canacoord. One of the more interesting Mexican targets (Monterde). Comments anyone?

May have more later.
