Well they assume someone is listening
that would be mistake one

SI is not generally a listening venue (imo)
That isn't to say some people don't
but listen to an argument that never ends?
Does anybody really "listen" to those?

If they do, that surprises me. I always thought people who do participate in other people's arguments just used them as ways to facilitate their own objectives, as opposed to actually listening. They use arguments as carrier waves, but are not really deeply interested in the material- except as it might complement their own needs.
