I think that Americans who understand football see it as the ultimate combination of speed, power and strategy

(USA) Football? No way, too many stoppages, too many specialized positions, etc etc etc.

I'd give that honor to basketball, and extremely physical game that requires ungodly body skills and not a few smarts to play well. Not to mention players have to play both offense and defense, and don't get to rest after every play.

Ahem...

First, I was talking about the NAME (not the game)

Second, while I understand American football (certainly not as well as the real Foot Ball)...

I never intended to diminish the game itself (only the NAMING of it)...

Now...

As for the equipment, I tend to agree in the use of it merely on safety grounds... BUT...

But do understand that if unprotected rugby players attempted to "hit" with the same level of speed and disregard for the body as football players are capable because of the armor, rugby matches probably wouldn't last more than 5 minutes. Just mo, of course.

Perhaps the only exception would be when they use their helmets for a block/tackle... other than that... Rugby players are completely NUTZ (or their brains have been completely rattled to the point of pain-numbness) -gg

Just take a look at ANY Rugby program (in England, France, Australia or the like) 90 % of the players have NO front teeth... LOL !

Now...

I suggest we move the sports related posts to here....
