I am less concerned about the semi-conductor business. The change to copper is evolutionary and it makes sense to cut back on old designs. If that means closing facilities and cutting people that support the old designs then that is unfortunate since you would like to think they could transition the assets along with the technology but it is a fact of life in the technology business.
The HDD business is a business failure which happened for a lot of reasons but it happened and it should be a core business that succeeds. Thousands of IBMers are going over to this new non-IBM business. This is not some little subset of the disk business. It is a major change.
