I do see the difference where perjury was concerned. There's more to say about all that, but leaving it just there, yes, lying to the voters isn't the same as committing perjury.

But the only difference between "I never had sex with that woman" and "I never said during my campaign that I was not going to raid SS" is that one is a lie claiming he hadn't engaged in a sexual affair he thought the voters wouldn't like and one was a lie claiming he hadn't broken a campaign promise he thought the voters wouldn't like it that he broke.

Breaking a campaign promise is different from, after the fact, lying about what you said in the first place.

And such a goofy, incompetent lie, too!

As for Quayle being so much brighter in person, maybe I'll post some statements he made, too! That would be an amusing trip down memory lane. You can claim that the liberal media made him say all those things, or made them up. That will be amusing! You can write, "Are you going to believe your lying eyes [the quotes] or are you going to believe me when I say he's smart because i met him at a fundraiser?" !
