I think the Indians are right. The war will not escalate. I am not sure that they will get the land that they think they need to hold back Pakistani militants from getting Chinese weapons. This as they say themselves is a high cost operation. It does underscore the perceived danger of this psuedo religious militancy in the eyes of some nations.

So confident was the Coalition in late November/early December 2001 that its soldiers would be back home for good and be celebrating Christmas,

it casually granted, apparently without second thoughts, the Pakistani leader (Gen. Pervez Musharraf) permission to repatriate, (ostensibly) Pakistani units from nortwestern Afghanistan by helicopter back into Pakistan.

As the evacuation seemed to take an inordinately long time (more than a week) I couldn't help thinking the US-led Coalition had blundered badly in allowing some elements of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda forces to escape into Pakistan and Kashmir together with the Pakistani units.

Apparently, the US only now realizes its error. I was not in the least surprised that the Indians declared they would invade Pakistan in two weeks' time to conduct a search-and-destroy operation similar to the one currently conducted by coalition forces in Afghanistan. I believe Rumsfeld, who will be visiting India soon, is behind this
plan. Not a bad plan at all considering the invasion would mean saving face for India and its leaders, and harassing and killing Muslim terrorists and spoiling their plans to regroup/reorganize.

Now that Rumsfeld has been forced to revise time-lines for operations in Afghanistan and sees fit to enlist Indian help and help elsewhere,

and Bush sees the need to establish a new intelligence agency (the CIA and FBI having been ineffective in preventing 9/11),

and he has been listening to Moslem moderates and has refused to see Arafat for the sixth time,

it appears that Bush and his men are taking a more realistic look at America and the world. Hopefully, this bodes well for all.

BTW, someone pointed out to me that while

"Dubya" means Double W or WW,
The WW stands not for Wishy-Washy.
Nor does WW stand for Whining Wimp;
But that "Dubya" stands for Winning Ways.

Considering that you support Bush 100%, I will be surprised if you don't agree 100%. <ggg>
