I don't have all the numbers but just the activation of more than 50,000 personnel costs over $150,000,000 a month for salary alone. This does not include the approximately $50,000,000 each month for quarters and rations, or who knows how much for the additional costs of providing active duty healthcare for each family member. I'm can see where we may be overspending, I'm only making the point that it's not just about plains. You may have noticed that most of the combat related injuries have been to the extremities. This is because of new vests being issued. Not everyone has had them issued and manufacturing is behind. You may have noticed some soldiers are not wearing desert BDU vests. Many don't have NVGs. Yet we still don't want to provide the money to equip them to the best possible level.
