Willcousa, Re: "How do you view the credibility of the EE times article?"

I give EE Times significantly more credence. The tone of the article is neither positive nor negative. It simply reports the state of AMD's low performance demos. After reading the direct quote from the AMD engineer Heyes, it sounds like Hammer is progressing as it should - neither ahead nor behind schedule. It's good that AMD is getting real demonstrations of their new hardware, but I wouldn't expect them to have a lot of functionality, as is evident from the lower performance. Whether or not they can get it to production by the end of the year will depend on how well AMD executes in the mean time, and it definitely seems they have been giving Hammer far more attention than any other project; and that is clearly evident from the way that Thoroughbred has continued to slip, while Hammer is healthy enough to run simple applications, and even in 4-way configurations. Since much of AMD's future depends on Hammer, I think it's clear that they will continue to invest heavily in it. There is a definite possibility that it should meet the revised December schedule, even if it is in low volume. I don't believe The Inquirer rumor that it will be delayed another 9 months.
