I met a fellow who had accentless English, though a Parisian of Jewish descent, who loved it that I had landed in a Jewish area of town, and wondered if it were intentional (pure accident). He was very friendly. I talked to a woman with good English, at a bistro near our hotel, perhaps a school teacher, who complemented my wife and me on our English, because we spoke so well that she understood us clearly. Oddly, she seemed to think we were English. I took it that Americans didn't usually end up were we were staying. But even the cabbies, some of whom spoke English, some of whom I had to venture to talk to in French, seemed to like our little family. I only met one terribly rude fellow, taking tickets at the Louvre.......
