I would consider segregation the most serious problem of the 50s, but not as savage as has been depicted in recent times. People in general had a higher code of ethics. Reciting the Pledge of Allegiance was not offensive, attacks on the Christian faith were unheard of, there was no profanity in movies-TV-radio-music, pornography was rare, abortion was unthinkable, and families were more traditional.

The 50s were comprised of imperfect people as is any time, but they basically knew right from wrong and when they did wrong they hid it. The 50s are gone forever and we have lost far more than we have gained.
