Craig, Re: "here is your mistake. modern conservatives are not classic liberals, even though they may label themselves as such."

No, it's not my mistake. I simply did not say what you suggest I have above. Sigh. Classic liberal thought(from certain dead guys), is in fact at root of modern conservatism in general. Conservatives widely recognize this, and if you believe it not to be so, I'm sure you are a minority.

Oh, and if you look I believe you'll find that George Washington was indeed considered a liberal in a world where Englands control represented the status quo which most folks living here(not considering Indians, of course) were willing to accept without a fight.

You've repeated yourself over and over, but the fact remains that repeal of the Corn laws was simply very effective at eliminating much suffering amoung the British people, as I'd stated in the first place, and against which there is no argument offered by you what-so-ever. Your point concerning Germans and war simply doesn't render my point false in any way what-so-ever, despite your insistent replies to the contrary.

Re: "so in the near century and a half when america operated under the tariff system we were not free nor well fed?"

Again, I didn't say that, did I? I'd noted before that the original constitutional tariffs were tiny and even-handed. To the extend that Tariffs were used as a protective device in a particular industry, rather than primarily as an even-handed revenue source, history will show significant harm was done to American consumers and others as a result. You would be Ill-advised to attempt to argue otherwise.

Your "more wars" argument is offbase as it doesn't touch the gist of my point: the truth of the history of Freedom(certain and specific causes & effects).

Freedom Works,
