DALLAS, TX, Jun 06, 2002 (AFX-UK via COMTEX) -- Texas Instruments Inc affirmed its earnings and sales guidance for the second quarter ending in June based on "strong" semiconductor orders in April and May.
TI said it expects its earnings per share to increase to about 5 cents according to US GAAP accounting and to around 6 cents pro forma, compared to the 1 cent per share it posted in the first quarter.

The Thomson Financial/First Call EPS consensus for TI is 6 cents with a range of 5-7 cents.

The company said sales are forecast to rise about 10 pct from the 1.83 bln usd in the first quarter of the year.

Speaking at a conference, chief executive officer Tom Engibous said semiconductor orders in the first two months of the current quarter have been "strong".

As a result, he forecast book-to-bill ratio for the quarter to be above one.
