Derek, I feel sure you are correct on the Panama Canal influence on the blood lines of the local population. I had not taken that into consideration. I read about the extra-curricular activities of York in a book that was supposed to be an accurate account of the expedition, but was not a school text book type of thing. I can't check it out because I lost my entire library in a sneak divorce when I was working out of state. She found a guy that was older, and had more money than me but, in the long run, I came out much better off because of it.
