My first cellphone was VoiceStream. It was not a good experience. Just knowing that I owned a phone using inferior (non-cdma) technology didn't help matters, but I have never had customer service as bad as I recieved at VoiceStream. And it wasn't an isolated incident either. Friends of mine, who are unfortunate enough to have VoiceStream have also reported terrible customer service. Frequently, your phone will stop working and requires that you type in an account number (not pin) to allow the systemt update the firmware. At that time, frequently your VoiceMail gets wiped out and requires that you re-record and configure it. The bill would arrive with insufficient time to get it through payment channels (at work) and next thing you know I'm recieving personal calls at home telling me to pay up or risk having my phone shut off. We're not talking two weeks here, more like 7 to 10 days from when I received the bill. The coverage, at least in my area was spotty too, as are most wireless phones on Maui, so I can't really fault them on that. The clarity was often bad, like talking into a paper-towel roll, and dropped calls were common. So in a word, yes, it really was that bad.

I switched to Sprint several years ago and by and large am happy with them, at least until they switched to an automated person for customer service. I just can't get used to talking to shirley, (or whatever her name is).

I will likely switch to Verizon to gain BREW apps and better coverage soon.
