Good point and definitely open to debate and much circular thinking. I believe the definition of a bull/bear is a minimum 20% rise/drop from the previous low/high so they can only be named in hindsight.

Therefore, in your example, the bull would have ended when it hit 125 but you couldn't confirm it until hit 100 again. Therefore, the bull would be 200 days.

That's my understanding but I'm pretty sure that Richard will come by and point out where I'm totally wrong <g>.
