I thought you were expiating Jewel's philosophy, which said that that which we love for ourselves we should love for others.

But you've moved far away from that.

Being a good neighbor to those around me is obvious.

I raised Rwanda because Jewel's philsophy seemed to indicate that I should be as concerned about those in Rwanda as those next door to me.

As to "the improvement of the general human lot," as I've indicated before, I don't want other people deciding what they think are improvements in my life, and I'm not going to impose on them what I think are improvements in their lot, as long as we don't infringe on each other. Who am I to say what will improve the lot of a farmer inthe Andes mountains? Would TV improve his life, for example? Electricity? A truck when he has no access to gasoline?

I assume, with Aristotle, that the goal of man is to be happy. But what makes me and you happy may be very different things. Therefore what we view as improvements in society will be very different things.
