It would be strange if people abandoned their deepest convictions on the basis of a single conversation. That is not how it works, ordinarily. The conversations here are just part of a longer process. Minds do change, eventually. I used to be on the radical end of the political spectrum, and it took me quite awhile, even after voting for Reagan, to give up on the Democratic Party and change my registration. What matters is that issues are aired with intelligence and thoroughness, not that minds are changed on some kind of timetable.....
