Yes, fair value does play a role, but the basic (fundamental?) thesis under which the turnips have been operating since early 2000, is that valuation will come back down over a period of years, where earning will catch up with gradually declining (or stabilizing) prices. The eventual end of this multi year Bear/Bull swing will see extreme values being created. If "they" brought the market down to rational valuations in one sweep, there will be nobody to take money from.... Newbies and even experienced investors must be shown a ray of hope (through periods of increasing prices, or bear market rallies) to make money if they are going to be persuaded to part with their hard earned cash.
