Hi Don, My hypothesis, subject to revision if necessary, is that computer programming, if measured .......... Unless of course you are talking about Windows that's the old cowboy days you are describing. :o) Now with 4GL and design tools third party or in house developed like ours a HUGE amount of that is history. Of course if the spec is bad or everything is written in 'reinventing the wheel' fashion well then yes things can and will get out of control. Most users are a lot more discerning today though.... Every line of code that is written for a product that fails to generate a profit on the open market pretty hard to quantify directly hence again 'How many jobs can I replace with these lines of code' ......I think it's just as often measured in overhead reduction than profit generation.
