You have to recall the historical context of these comments and feelings. The founding fathers were not even sure that Democracy would work. Heck, they didn't even practice what they preached ("all men are created equal - as long as they are white and male").

As I pointed out in an earlier post tonight, the language "being composed of the collective body of the people" was REMOVED from the original version of the 2nd amendment. Why remove it when keeping it in would have bolstered the argument made in your article? Because it was recognized that a militia must be 'well regulated', and that doesn't mean a mob of citizens rebelling against the government.

Additionaly, how about Supreme court: Cruikshank v. U.S. 1876, "The right of bearing arms for a lawful purpose is not a right granted by the constitution, nor is it in any manner dependent upon that instrument for its existence".
