BoE's George Says MPC Watching All Aspects Of Econ
Thu Jun 6, 5:54 PM ET

LONDON -(Dow Jones)- The Bank of England 's Monetary Policy Committee is keeping a close eye on all sectors of the economy and isn't focusing excessively on inflation, central bank governor Eddie George told BBC Television Thursday.

On the day the MPC voted to keep the repo rate at 4.0% for a seventh month in a row, George dismissed accusations that by focusing exclusively on inflation, the Committee is putting at risk the job of managing the wider economy.

> Central Fund issues shares to buy $50 million in bullion

I previously mentioned this, because they are taking advantage of the current premium to float shares.
CEF used to almost always trade at at discount to NAV (net asset value)

At a premium to NAV, one is probably better off buying bullion directly.

Also, the other point I made was CEF can be used as a sentiment indicator for the gold markets.
When it was trading at an 18% discount to NAV in October 2000, it pretty much helped confirm the bottom was in.
Trading at a premium and floating more shares now also seems like a possible indicator of a top ?

Bema Gold CEO Clive Johnson [nothing] but disparage GATA
.
Sunday Jun 9, 2002
A report from the Vancouver mining conference
by GATA Chairman Bill Murphy Saturday, June 8, 2002
.
Dear Friends of GATA and Gold:
.
Here are highlights of my trip...
... with Samex Mining CEO Jeff Dahl
... Joe Tie, ... honcho [of] chinesegata.org
... private presentation... project in Bolivia [elephant country]
and early drill results indicate potential comparable
to the other great silver and gold finds in the area.
... the talented CEO of X-Cal Resources, Sean Kennedy,
who surprised me with a generous contribution to GATA.
Some of his large shareholders are prominent Europeans
whom I have had the pleasure of meeting and who have been
Cafe members for years. Royal Bank of Canada is also
a large shareholder of X-Cal.
... with Nick Ferris, CEO of J-Pacific Gold
... the ubiquitous John Anderson [has] a gold business venture
that I will bring to the attention of Cafe members...
... when former Normandy chairman Robert Champion
de Crespigny refused to meet with me...
... Johnson never looked our way again...
My friends could not believe how rude he was...
Two more goodies for you that I picked up on my trip to Canada:
* There is a hedge book out there as toxic as that of Ashanti
... has urged the company to cover -- and it can but refuses...
* The gold producers as a group have covered far less
of their forward sales than is generally thought.
This is very bullish news, as it means that...
... of gold skyrocketing.
... the physical gold market is going to seize up...
