Do you think that Prime Minister Sharon would even consider "giving up all of the settlements", unless the President has applied serious pressure?

Sharon has not considered this. He's opposed to dismantling anything.

IMO, all that is required is that the Palestinians be unified, and demonstrate their willingness for peace

Considering that they are not unified, and their leadership is now (as it has been for the last seventy years) strongmen, thugs and religious fanatics, none of whom have any interest in peace, we may be waiting a while yet.

The President believes that since the Palestinians have come this far along the path to peace, they should be allowed to walk the last few steps.

First time I've heard sending suicide bombers to blow up civilians called "com[ing] this far along the path to peace". I guess if the Pals manage to kill a couple thousand Israelis at once, then they will be really far along the path to peace, huh?
