I know our family always has a Luau to celebrate San Juan Islands Resolution Day. Doesn't everyone?

Yes Cristopher,

We are a violent society.. Violence perpetrated mostly by the fearful and the weak.. A fearful individual or society is the most dangerous because they strike out without thinking, like a wounded animal..

Anyway.. moving on to what you said..

<<We had a dispute, we got into a war (in which the only casualty was a pig), we submitted the dispute to national arbitration, and we abided by the decision. You did study this in your history, I'm sure, and celebrated it as the appropriate way to solve international problems. Right? >>

I imagine I did, I don't remember though, I do remember something about 49 40 or fight, Does that connect? <g>.. But about a pig casualty on San Juan Islands, no I don't, I am sorry.. I have attended luaus in the Hawaiian Islands.. but I celebrated a new showing of grass skirts, not a pig in the San Juans.. Did they "put some lipstick on that pig".. Just kidding ....

But please excuse me, I hope, for not being up to date on the PAST.. gg.. But I am a COUG, and I am out in front of the future.. <vbg>... While you guys ponder the past..

Although I do like the Huskies, my next favorite PAC-10 university is X's alma mater, UC California, Berkeley.(GO BEARS). We have closer ties to the UC system, Davis and Berkeley.. Although my uncle graduated from UW, one of the first grads in the ceramics engineering BTW..

But moving on further,, I have something for you to ponder: We COUGs provide the fodder for you Huskies to chew on.. Imagination and innnovation ahead of study.. <g>.

So we are big fans of "Sunset Magazine", subscribers for years.. I hate to dis them, Since the family that used to or still does,,publish them had close ties to Wazzu..But I call them like I see them..

I like them for ideas in landscaping, recipes, etc.. But what bothers me, is they sure has Hell know how hold a good dinner party, know what wine to serve, what a good quiche is like, what a chic patio looks like.. but children, hardly are ever shown.. Except holding a cool flower spot..

But in the BACK PAGES, where the advertisements are shown, are so many ads for camps, for troubled youths, struggling teens, healing wounds, losing weight, improving self esteem and on and on..

Have not these people lost track of their priorities, where a chic dinner party on a cool patio are worth more than their children ? They seem to put a higher priority in their material wealth than their children..

I don't get it.. But then again, I don't get a lot..
